Bay School Admission Staff
Erica Brodie
Director of Admission
I'm a Massachusetts native and grew up just outside of Boston in the tiny town of Dover (rounding out the all–East Coast admissions team). In an attempt to escape the brutal New England winters, I spent four fabulous years studying Psychology and Spanish at Stanford University. After graduation, I taught for two years at San Francisco Day School before heading back east to complete my master's degree in Education Policy at Harvard University.
During grad school I interned in the admissions office at Tufts University and absolutely loved it, vowing one day to return to admissions. After barely surviving one winter in Boston, I happily returned to San Francisco where I spent two years in educational research and policy at the non-profit organization, WestEd. When a position in Bay's admission office opened up I literally jumped at the opportunity, and after serving three years as the Assistant Director of Admission, I am thrilled to continue serving Bay as the Director of Admission.
Some interesting things to know about me: I am, and always will be, a diehard Red Sox fan, though I really enjoy all baseball games. I love tennis and running. I also love dark chocolate, peanut butter, and lattes—not necessarily in that order.
Eric Krieger
Assistant Director of Admission
Born in New York City, I moved to the suburbs of Princeton, New Jersey at the age of 12. I went on to study Psychology and Economics at Middlebury College in Vermont, where I was a member of two Division III National Championship Lacrosse teams as a goalie. After graduation, I relocated to the beautiful town of Jackson Hole to take advantage of its outdoor sports and spectacular setting.
I had my first taste of independent school admissions when I returned to Vermont to work at Vermont Academy as Associate Dean of Admission. After a great experience there, I wanted to combine my passion for traveling with working in the classroom, so I headed off to England where I spent a year teaching math to kids with learning differences and coaching sports, from girls' lacrosse to boys' cricket. Then I headed down to Buenos Aires, Argentina to enjoy Latin culture, learn Spanish and teach English as a second language.
My enthusiasm to work in high school admission never waned, and when the opportunity to join Bay this year opened up, I jumped at it. Having toured the school for the first time in 2008, I knew that it was a place where I could grow professionally in an environment pushing an innovative and exciting curriculum while providing a nurturing place for the students to grow into confident, life-long learners.
In my free time you'll find me outside somewhere. In the winters I'll be on the hill snowboarding, and the rest of the year I'll either be hiking, mountain biking, or playing sports with my friends. I love pizza, and I'm a die-hard New York Giants fan.
Alan Siu
Admission Associate
I grew up in the Boston suburbs just a few towns over from Erica, went to Wesleyan University (where I met my wife, a fellow English major), and then earned my master's degree at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, planning to become a teacher. I taught high school English in North Quincy, MA and in Newington, CT and after moving west, taught English at Crystal Springs Uplands School, where I also began working in the admission office. After leaving teaching, I wanted to continue to work in education, so I began work as the admission database manager at California College of the Arts.
Joining the Bay School in 2007 provided a wonderful opportunity for me to return to independent schools and to become part of a school whose mission I deeply believe in—particularly the emphasis on depth over breadth, stewardship of time, and ethics and world religions. During the past three years, I've grown to mightily appreciate the benefits (for students, faculty, and staff alike) of our daily morning meditations.
As the admission associate here at Bay, I'll probably be the first person you speak with on the phone or hear back from via email. I also mentor the Bay School a cappella singing group, and I enjoy serving as a sophomore advisor.
Fun facts about me: At age 7, I switched from being right-handed to left-handed when writing with a pencil or pen (still right-handed for writing with chalk); I'm a vegetarian who doesn't like spicy food, and I somehow still find stuff to eat; I have a double-fold on one eyelid and a single-fold on my other eyelid; and I love cats (especially mine).
