Dear Members of the Class of 2014 and Transfer Students,

On behalf of the entire Bay School community, welcome to you all. As new Bay School students you are part of a diverse group of bright, enthusiastic newcomers who will bring a remarkable range of perspectives, talents and interests to our school. From your very first day, you will experience what makes Bay special: a creative curriculum that directly connects to the world around us, teachers who are deeply passionate about what they teach, abundant opportunities to learn and grow through athletics, clubs, and extracurricular activities, and a closely-knit community that recognizes and celebrates each individual.

During your years at Bay you will build friendships with fellow students across grade levels and across backgrounds. Along the way, you will develop trusting relationships with inspiring teachers in our classrooms, labs and studios, as well as on the playing field, stage and around the campfire. You will consider new perspectives at morning meeting, and be encouraged to engage the community about issues and subjects of importance to you. You will encounter new opportunities and challenges, develop your capacities in unexpected areas, and be asked to apply your talents and energy to real-world problems.

Your transition from middle school, or from another high school, to Bay offers an important chance to start afresh. You have the gift of new opportunities, to make friends, take risks, explore new passions, and develop yet undiscovered talents with the support of skilled and caring teachers who are invested in your success.

Our seniors confirm that at Bay, there is an absolute relationship between commitment and growth. They have learned that those students who are willing to "bring their whole selves to school" and to invest themselves fully in their education are destined for success.

Although the Bay School has achieved many milestones of success in its short history, we are not complacent. Instead, we are universally dedicated to growth and innovation. Student voices and leadership play a crucial role in the evolution of our school.

In the next few weeks, you will hear from Matt Hannibal, Freshman Class Dean, and Julie Taufa'asau, Dean of Students, about the next steps in your transition to the Bay School. Careful attention to the information you receive will insure a smooth start at Bay.

We enthusiastically look forward to welcoming you to your new school in late August, and to supporting your growth and achievement.

Sincerely,

Timothy W. Johnson
Head of School
